If diastema is the only orthodontic problem, it can be treated with one or several of these choices: namely full (upper and lower) braces, full braces only on the upper teeth, partial braces on some of the upper teeth and a removable orthodontic tool like a retainer. The treatment may depend on factors such as your age, dental development and facial and skeletal relations. The orthodontist will have to know how regular (symmetrical) the form of your face is, or if you have a long and short and wide or narrow face. Consult your orthodontist on the best course of action for your case. If the treatment to your diastema is wearing braces, you will be given a retainer after they are removed. The retainer will preserve the corrected tooth positions.
