Vices such as smoking and improper flossing can be severe grounds for oral problems and once they escalate, chances are you cannot live through their pain.

No matter how high your tolerance for pain maybe, remember, you are not helping remedy the solution. You can take pain killers for a while but it will all come back. See a specialist and get the right treatment. You owe it to your mouth.

When one or a couple of your teeth are misaligned, chances are you will have deformed teeth.

Normally, people would improvise or forego fixing their teeth for one reason or another. But the fact remains you will eventually be forced to turn to dentures to make sure everything is corrected. This is something we commonly see in elders today. So if you are still young, it would be best to take care of your teeth and have your specialist take care of them as well.

A dental implant may actually be tooth saving for there is no need to get support form neighboring teeth which also have to be processed (trimmed and filed down to accept a crown that would also have the crown for the missing tooth attached to it) for a bridge to work. A bridge usually has the to nearest teeth (left and right) cut to size and covered by the same crown as the missing one thus subjecting them to invasive procedures that if not taken care of properly can also be lost. Dental Implants need no support from other teeth rather they support their own weight by having their own anchor (which can either be implanted on the jaw or screwed into the jay bone itself) on which the crown is affixed to.

Laser dentistry is fast becoming a popular dental procedure all over the world. Based on how new technologies are being created and perfected, dental procedures using lasers will also drop in price, will become more effective and procedures will be finished more quickly.
Lasers have long been used in various medical procedures but it is only now that it’s use in dentistry is becoming more popular. There are many procedures now that use lasers, among them dental cleaning and in root planning. In the future, lasers will enable dentists to access and fix any part of a damaged tooth without the need for a dental drill.

Researchers have long concluded that a healthy intake of milk and other dairy products is a good source of protein that helps in bone formation. New studies are now saying that a healthy diet rich in dairy products can help one maintain healthy gums as well. The Study released on the Journal of Periodontology shows that people who consume healthy quantities of dairyy such as milk and cheeses have less diseases in their gums. Asides from healthier teeth and bone they have also been seen to have healthier gums compared to those who have little dairy consumption.
Lactic acid which is present in dairy might be helping stem back the destructive effects of our resident bacterial guests present in our gums and teeth. Our mouths are full of bacteria which under normal circumstances are kept in check by healthy oral hygiene. The lactic acid may hold back or kill off much of the bacteria that causes tooth decay and other periodontal problems so the next time you’re in the dairy section, choose dairy for healthier gums and teeth.

The arch-wires are bent to counter the natural tendency of teeth to go anywhere which the dentist corrects by applying either rubber bands or changing the arch wire’s pull direction. The technology has indeed revolutionized the field of orthodontics which used to take years to accomplish alignment. Advances that used to take years are now possible in months with proper alignment methods such as the straight arching of teeth.

Doctors are seeing a rise in incidents where cosmetic procedures done on teeth are hiding true problems such as underlying decay which was covered up with veneers or crowns and other related problems. Cases of such are more difficult to detect and treat for the outer appearance of teeth shows no sign of problems while the underlying natural teeth is severely decayed. This can lead to tooth loss, which was aimed to have been prevented early on if proper dental analyses have been done which could have isolated and necessitated treatment before the cosmetic procedure preventing tooth threatening problems in the future.

The use of sealants serves to add a tough layer of clear plastic-like material which seals in a worn out area of the tooth which would be the molars for they get the most wear and tear of all teeth due to their grinding function. Statistics are showing that there is indeed a noticeable increase in their use yet dentists say that that is not enough. More and more children who have to adapt and live in the fast paced lifestyle are indeed getting to wear their teeth fast. Corrosive drinks which contain acids and other chemicals along with poor diet are to blame, and dentists say these teeth could have been saved if they were given enough dental care. Frequent brushing does affect your overall dental hygiene but nothing can defeat the regular visit to the dentist to detect problems early on.

The addition of using fluoridated water where not available greatly increases the protection level for all who suffer the condition. A weekly brushing with 0.2% chlorhexidine gel reduces the chances of infections and enamel wear which can cause a worsening of the condition. Cosmetic surgery is widely available for treatment of such malformations in the lips and palate which can be a great help in boosting self-confidence for any child or adult.
